Thank you Rick.
2008 is already off to a great start. We had 40 people out there TRAINING on Tuesday night. It's a whole different atmosphere when we have that many people (FUN!) so thank you all for making the effort to get out to the track.
Six points to this e-mail... 1) the juniors train on Tuesday afternoons so we will let them finish before we get on the track. No later than 6:30pm.
2) to encourage roadies to give the track a try, we will have scratch races on Tuesday's in April, June, and August (and points racing in May, July and September). 40 some odd minutes of racing should be about 80 laps! Scratch races are great training for criteriums. I'd argue that scratch races are more difficult than crits (there is no coasting out there) and that the tactics and timing that you pick up in a scratch race will help you in your crit racing.3) just like Rick's Wednesday night racing, I will hand out numbers for racing and you need to use that number for the whole series. An additional number cost you $5.4) $10 for racing and $5 if you need a rental bike (must be reserved before 7pm). There are no prizes and this volunteer takes no $, but you should feel good about your $ going to improving our velodrome.5) commute to the track... send out e-mails and connect with people if you need a ride. Commuting is great for sharing experiences, costs and saving you time in that commuter lane on 101.
6) have a plan every time you head to the track... do you want to sit in and sprint? Do you want to make an effort and check out your recovery? Can you bridge to that breakaway and contribute to its staying away? Can you quantify your training race? For some, getting six one-lap flyers in during the race and finishing in the middle of the pack can be a better workout than following wheels and taking 5th. Have a plan for every time you head to the track, that's what I'm advising.
