Greetings from the DBC!
Davis, California, the first of two cities in the US yet to receive
‘Platinum’ recognition by the League of American Bicyclists, is proud
to host the 32nd Annual Davis Bike Club 4th of July Criterium! This
is going to be a very exciting event full of top notch racing and fun
for all! You won’t want to miss this one!
First, the race bizz:
Pre-registration for the 4th of July Criterium will close on 01 July
2008. That is just 7 short days away! Register for the race here:

day registration, add $15. Reg early folks before it closes…makes it
easier on your wallet and our reg staff come race day.
Highlights of the Davis 4th of July Criterium:
- Flat, Fast, Exciting Downtown Crit… …this isn’t your typical
corporate park crit…it’s a 6-corner downtown classic (0.7 mile lap)…
the sidewalks will be packed with spectators and you will feel the
buzz of excitement!
- All category place prizes given as cash (see flyer)
- Lots of fantastic prime prizes…
- Commemorative 32nd Annual 4th of July Criterium T-shirts.
- A participant in the Cycles Gladiator “Uninhibited Racer’
Series.
- Neutral wheel support for all races generously provided by
Williams Wheels.
- Professional EMTs on hand for your safety and aid.
- Complimentary refreshments provided to all registered racers.
SOME VERY HOT PRIZES JUST ADDED! The winners of both the Men’s Pro/
1/2 and Women’s Pro/1/2/3 races will each be awarded two (2) tickets
to the 2008 US Bicycling Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Dinner
on 02 November 2008. The ceremony will be held on the University of
California, Davis Campus (Freeborn Hall). The tickets have been
generously donated by the California Bicycle Museum (Davis, CA).
This promises to be an event to remember, and there will be BIG names
in attendance (past and present)!

Now, for the kidlets and the family! It’s the 4th of July…
Independence Day! Bring the entire family and the dog, and enjoy the
lively Davis community atmosphere and its many 4th of July
activities. Big list below…but keep reading if you have family
coming along with ya…or are not brining family and just want to have
fun!
For the kids:
• Bring your kids to meet and greet with some of Nor Cal’s finest
women and men Pro/Cat 1 cyclists. They all have connections to Davis
in some way…can you guess who?! Introductions, Q&A session and
autograph signing to be held from 11:00-11:30 AM in the back room of
the Bistro 33 restaurant (226 F Street). We will also have a drawing
for some cool stuff for the kids. Limited to kids 12 and under. The
kids will be inspired!
• The Kiwanis Kiddie Parade. At 9:15 a.m., parade entrants will
gather on C Street between First and Second Streets. Judging for
awards will begin at 9:30 a.m. Scooters, bicycles, wagons, etc. will
be judged based on creativity, patriotism and enthusiasm. At 10 a.m.
the parade begins to march a couple of blocks to Central Park. The
parade will end in the shaded sycamore grove, and refreshments will

• Kid’s non-competitive fun ride! Starts at 12:10 pm…Kids MUST have
parents sign a waiver at the registration desk. All kids will
receive a goodie bag full of cool stuff. Limited to 200 participants.
• The Community Pool will be open for free swimming between 1 and 5
p.m. Bring your swim suits…a great way to keep everybody cool and happy!
• A face painter and a balloon artist will be entertaining the kids
(or some of us wanna be kids!) outside of Bistro 33 (226 F Street;
just near the start/finish line). Look for them! The kids will love
it!
• The Davis Little League will be hosting its annual all-you-can-eat
pancake breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. at the Veterans' Memorial Center,
203 E. 14th St. Tickets are $3 and will be available at the door.
• The California Bicycle Museum will present a free display of
historic bicycles in the Bistro 33 Restaurant banquet room during the
day on July 4th.

So, the races are over…and you thought that was it…well, there is so
much more!…don’t pack it up quite yet….we invite you to stay in Davis
for more celebrating that lasts into the night! We have secured
special pricing for lodging at the Hallmark Inn in Davis (just one
block from the race course; 110 F Street, Davis, 800-753-0035, http://
www.hallmarkinn.com). Mention ‘4th of July Criterium’ when making
reservations to get the discount. If you are racing at Leesville on
Saturday, and/or Vacaville on Sunday, staying in Davis puts you right
in close proximity to both!…gotta love that!

• In Community Park, concessions and games will begin at 3 p.m. and
will run until 9 p.m. A variety of nonprofit groups will sell soft
drinks, hot dogs, beer, ice cream and snow cones.
• The main stage, north of the Davis High School tennis courts, will
once again come alive with a variety of local, live entertainment.
Beginning the show at 5:30 p.m. will be Duval-Speck, specializing in
pop classics and current hits. The band is fronted by singer Cathy
Speck and Linda Duval on guitar. Check em out!
• At 6:59 p.m. Music Matt and the Whole Nine Yards, led by Matt
Fisher, will be performing. His infectious music and warm,
approachable style is popular with families and the younger set. To

• Next up at 7:44 p.m. will be the skydiving exhibition by SkyDance
SkyDiving, The skydivers will land in Community Park in the area west
of the fireworks perimeter barricades.
• At 8:09 p.m. there will be a Japanese drumming performance by
Davis Wakamatsu Taiko.
• The final band of the evening will be the classic rock ‘n’ roll of
Custom Neon at 8:40 p.m. Custom Neon plays classic hits from the 60s,
70s, 80s and 90s. The band has also written several originals,
giving their audience the combined pleasure of enjoying classics and

• The newly seated Mayor Ruth Asmundson will give a short welcome at
9:22 p.m., and Custom Neon will perform the National Anthem.
• And the GRAND FINALE! At 9:30 p.m., the City of Davis will
present its Aerial Fireworks Display!
All of these activities actually within walking distance of the Crit
course!!!!
