THE TOWN
First of all, Napa is very very excited to have bike racing return to
its downtown streets after such a long hiatus. The City has been very
supportive and has great ambitions for making this a large-scale annual
community fun event, on par with Burlingame. In fact, they are very
supportive of the idea of a Napa Valley Stage Race, with the Gran Prix
as its centerpiece.
Along the course we have a beautiful new terraced riverside park, a brew
pub with course-side seating, a great tapas restaurant, the Napa Valley
Coffee Roasting Company, and a pro bike shop just a block off turn one,
Napa River Velo.
And it's Napa Valley. The second most popular tourist attraction in the
State. So bring la familia. (Kid's race, too)
THE PARCOURS
It's truly a Gran Prix. Half a mile with a series of four rapid
nineties, a straightaway, the "Crazy P" turn (just defies apt
description), and a straightaway to the start/finish.
THE PRIZES
Good money. Great primes. Podium finishers get cash, race t-shirt,
custom medal, Cycles Gladiator wine and upper-shelf Cytomax products.
(Are you kidding?!?) (No.)
THE WARNINGS
This is going to be a fast, hard race. Bring - your - A+ game!
Don't come by way of Sears Point/ Infineon!! (i.e. 101 to 37 from Marin)
Nascar is in town that weekend and you will miss your start. Come via
Highway 80 to Hwy 37 to Hwy 29 from Vallejo, or Hwy 80 to Hwy 12 to Hwy
29 from Fairfield, or Hwy 101 to Hwy 116 to Hwy 121 to Hwy 29 from
Petaluma.
THE EXPERIMENT
The 35+ 1/2/3 race will be a points race. One point to the lap winner,
every third lap is 3/2/1 points to the top three and a prime! If you
aren't racing in it, you'll probably want to come early or stay late to
watch it.
THE COCONSPIRATORS
ZteaM. They rock!!
Stone Bridge School in Napa. All race proceeds go to benefit their arts
program.
THE LAST LAUGH
This is the Rosemary birthing of the Cycle Circus. There will be more
Big Ring races, and they will be progressively more fun, each one, until
we burst our spandex.
