Here's what we will work on this Sunday.

Lesson Plans for Early Birds Week #1 - Basic Pack Skills

Discussion Items: Getting comfortable in the group, riding a smooth and
steady pace and being a predictable rider (avoid over-reacting), being
aware of overlapped wheels, being comfortable with riders close on
either side, the front 1/2 of the field has the smoothest pace, pedaling
the corners and staying off the brakes, handling the evil Bots Dots.

Warm-up: Warm up in groups of 8-10 w/ 2 mentors each, ride double pace
line for 2 laps w/exchanges every 20 seconds, (talk the riders through
the process of moving from front to back as needed).

Practice: Focus on maintaining speed in the corners (coasting or
pedaling but NO braking), limited lateral movement, closing gaps gradually
and awareness when wheels are overlapped. Work to increase comfort levels
for riding close. Bots Dots: Teach the riders that these are harmless
and can be ridden over and through safely by keeping pressure on the
pedals and riding straight until they can safely move aside back to
smooth pavement. Safety Issue: Side to side movement is unnecessary and a
major cause of crashes at this event.
