[NCNCA] Women's Races

I had been part of a side conversation but after seeing the string I'll paste this here.
<snip>
I've been the race director for EBC for the past 3 years, we and I'm sure other clubs would
love to support all categories to grow the sport, but I think what gets lost by the "squeaky wheels"
is the effort of putting on an event.
Sure there is griping about "They only want to put in Categories that make Money" well
to be blunt and to the point Yes! As you (other race organizers) are well aware it takes lots of commitment
and investment to put on an event. So making a few bucks after expenses to support our club activities feeds the club
which feeds back to the cycling community. Hard work needs to be rewarded, be it a BBQ or a training camp.
There has to be a solution somewhere to get numbers up at events for Jr's and women's.
Dividing up all Bay area races, one half Jr's, other half Women's. Would fewer races for those Classes
result in higher registration numbers or would it kill off that sector of racing?
I did a quick tally of numbers and most Bay area races Avg. 36 Total women per event. That's about 129
spots that could have been filled by a duplicate field.
Personally I would be happy to see the women reciprocate the commitment made by pre-registering
for events. Quite frankly when race planning comes around the following year, I remember
the lack or pre-reg more than I remember how many raced in those classes.
Regarding the "Purse" value ya a big purse is suppose to tempt a large field, but at the same time could backfire as
in CVC's case. Our approach is to meet USCF requirements by placing a minimum value with the Caveat of a percentage payout from that Cat's registration fees, i.e. the more that reg the bigger the payout.
Long and short of it, I'd like to see a solution that would work for the masses. I'd be satisfied with seeing a small
gesture of Pre-Registration to reciprocate the commitment.
Old Topic and could go on and on.
Disclaimer: these are the expressed thoughts ramblings of Me and should not directly associated with EBC ;)
Seriously though I hope there is a solution that could resolve this topic.
Hey Good luck with your event this weekend!
Cheers
Jim

I agree that if women are going to complain about lack of fields, they need to show up when they get what they were asking for.
However, women are not big on pre-registering. They rarely need to because fields don't fill. And life, for me, makes it hard to plan more than 2 days in advance. So I often choose not to pre-register unless I know for sure I will be able to attend.
So maybe we all need to be spanked for complaining about small fields and then not showing up, but you really should wait until after the races are over to get nasty about it.
