Please send this announcement out to the women and girls on your teams, as
well as any women and girls whom you think would be interested in a cycling
clinic targeted to beginner and intermediate racers, triathletes, endurance
riders, and cycling enthusiasts. The clinic does offer up to 7 upgrade
points for category 4s!

Bay Area Women's Cycling (BAWC) announces its eighth annual women's and
girls' road cycling clinic to be held on Saturday and Sunday, June 7 and 8,
at the Lucie Stern Community Center, 1305 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto, in
the Fireside Room. The Clinic runs from 9:00am to 5:00pm both days;
registration and refreshments are from 8:00-9:00am.
*The Clinic is for women and girls who want to learn how to improve their
bike handling skills, to train for a cycling event, to know what is needed
to start road racing, or to improve their racing strategy. Not only is it
for the cycling enthusiast but it is also for the endurance rider, the
triathlete, or the beginner/intermediate racer. *The weekend will offer
skills drills and classroom instruction that include basic bike handling
skills, training, and racing skills/strategy.
Instructors include Stanford University alumna, Nicole Freedman. Freedman is
a former professional cyclist who was a two-time U.S. National Champion,
member of the U.S. Olympic Road Team, and founder of the Ford-Basis Women's
Cycling Team.
"We are excited about our 2008 event," said Brooke Kuhn, president of BAWC.
"We have seen a tremendous increase in the number of female cyclists in the
last few years. This event should be our best yet!"
Because of generous donations from the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, the
Clinic is subsidized at the low price of $89/day or $159/weekend (or $84/day
or $149/weekend for San Francisco Bicycle Coalition members --
www.sfbike.org/?join_renew); juniors (age 18 years or under): $39/day or
$79/weekend. Five full scholarships are available for juniors; contact
Brooke Kuhn to apply (BrookeKuhn at gmail.com or 415-252-9047). In addition,
group rates are available as follows: 3 to 5 people -- $84/day per person or
$149/weekend per person; 6 or more people -- $79/day per person or
$139/weekend per person. Groups must register together to earn the
discount.
To register for the Clinic, send checks made out to "Bay Area Women's
Cycling Clinic" postmarked by Tuesday, June 3, 2008, to Brooke Kuhn, c/o Bay
Area Women's Cycling, 143 San Carlos St., San Francisco, CA 94110.
Participants should be sure to note on the check which session(s) they will
attend and whether they prefer a vegetarian or white meat lunch. There will
be on-site registration, space permitting (with a $5 same-day registration
fee). The maximum size for the Clinic is 60 people.
Participants should bring their bikes, helmets, and cycling clothes. Also,
for women and girls who race, upgrade points will be provided for attending
the Clinic.
BAWC owes thanks to the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, Metromint Cycling
Team, Metromint, Galaxy Granola, See Jane Run Sports, Crunch, Sports
Basement, Hammer Nutrition, Cycling Made Real, and USA Cycling for their
generous support; many of the organizations have donated prizes for
participants at the event.
