[NCNCA] medical support

Hi Ben, As a promoter of many events (Berkeley Hills, Pinole, Albany, BBC
Twilights), I would definitely be interested in further study of this issue.
Although we have the 'luxury' of putting on races in relatively suburban
settings close to good hospitals, we have so far found it adequate to have at least
one paramedic on site (usually with a back-up of ER nurse who is a cyclist).
They will advise the injured person as to whether or not they think an
ambulance is necessary.
There has been some question in the past as to whether a company like AMR
will transport an injured racer to a hospital, or if they will also just call
911 for support. Anyone know the real answer to this? Maybe it's a different
story out in the middle of nowhere where a lot of road races are held.
We always breathe a sigh of relief when our race is over and no one has been
seriously injured, but I know we would welcome further inquiry into this
matter.
Thanks,
Meredith Nielsen
