As most on this list already race, please pass this note along to your friends that are thinking of racing in 2008...

Scores of new riders get their start in road bicycle racing at the Early Bird Criterium Training Race series every January. We can only hope that 2008 will continue the same trend. To help riders along we have them spend about an hour in each of the 5 weeks going over some bicycle racing skills. As you can imagine, one hour is not enough training for all riders. Turnover is already high in this sport so we’ve got a couple of opportunities that you and your friends might want to consider so that you can best be ready for 2008:

o Shawn Mehaffey and Laurel Green are running an advanced skills clinic this coming weekend. One must have racing experience to take part in this clinic. The two-day clinic will take place in and around Pleasanton and is almost sold out.

o Alan Atha frequently runs his skills clinics in the Marin area. Check out the www.ncnca.org website for updates

o Our AMD-Discovery Channel juniors and masters team are leading a 3-week series out of the Bicycle Outfitter in Los Altos. The series is geared towards riders thinking about racing in 2008, but with speakers such as me (Oct 25), Kevin Metcalfe (Nov. 1) and Dylan Casey (Nov 8) the information could be applied at all levels or racing. Our juniors will be there too so that younger riders can ask their questions and learn from some of the best. Check out the info on www.bicycleoutfitter.com or www.amdmasters.com (in the blog section) and remember to call the Bicycle Outfitter @ 650.948.8092 to reserve your spot as sitting is limited .

Cheers, Larry Nolan, AMD-Discovery Channel Juniors and Masters Cycling Team
