Here's what we will work on at the Early Bird Crit this Sunday.

*****

Week #2 - Cornering

Discussion Items: A brief review of the topics already covered stressing steady, predictable riding and safe bike handling and conservation of energy plus being cooperative with your competitors. New Topics - What to do if you do overlap wheels and picking the best line through a turn.

Demo: Touching wheels and avoiding crashing.

Warm-up: Warm up in three large groups with evenly divided mentors, ride double pace line for 2 laps w/exchanges every 20 seconds. Practice going through the turns from the outside through the apex and then back out again. Make your group ride over bots dots a couple times, again learning not to swerve or fear them.

Practice: Pedaling through a turn and keeping one's line. Divide the riders into three groups migrating to turns 1, 2, and 3. Practice first with one rider going through the turn every 5 seconds. After 10 minutes have two riders side by side pedal through the turn, then finally three riders. Emphasis should be on maintaining momentum, not slowing down in the corners, and keeping one's line. Mentors should stand in street making riders go outside them, then inside at the apex, back to the outside (in short be human safety cones =).
