I wrote this yesterday on the NCNCAracing.com forum...
I think the new age groups are more fair, especially for the guys over 50
who were mostly shut out of the medals with the previous age scheme. Now the
55-year olds, and there are plenty of them at nat's, have an event they
could win or at least get closer than 12th place.
I see very few team sprint teams from the USA who have done masters nat's
and Worlds together in the 135+ age group, maybe one or two teams. There
were none in 2004 and 2005, and just one in 2006, and one of their riders
already told me he intends to keep the same team together for next year's
nat's even though he could go to a team in the 50+. So the effect is that a
handful of riders may have to change a teammate.
I think it's more relevant to do the TT at nat's over the same distance as
at Worlds because there are more riders affected by this, but that proposal
didn't pass last year.
