I have had a number of questions regarding this post so let me add more details. This program has very experienced women racer's (mentors) who ride along with the Cat 4 (beginner) women races in order to help them learn how to race.
Before the race the mentor's introduce themselfs to the officials. At the starting line the officials point out the mentor and let the peleton know the mentor is there to observe and assist. Mentors DO NOT impact the outcome of the race. Often the mentor's give advice in the race such as "breathe" and "relax your elbows"...aiding in safety.
There will be a mentor this weekend at the Cherry Pie race. If there are any races you would prefer to have a mentor attend just let me know. No promises but we'll certainly try.
The purpose of the WomenÂs Cat 4 Mentor Program is to encourage women to race. Mentors will focus on safe riding, pack skills, racing techniques, gear usage, bike fit, etc. in order to support novice racers. Mentors will not impact the outcome of the race, and will be available afterward to answer questions, discuss race techniques and offer suggestions to improve.
I've been asked some very good offline questions. Keep them coming!!
