HI All~
Jason's words echoed my thoughts exactly...I hope promoters, especially point series promoters will take his advice to heart. Jrs 15/16 & Jrs 17/18 in separate races, and at least 30 minutes.
A fine example is the Martinez Criterium with one field of Jrs 12-18 for 40 minutes.
It takes an exceptional 12 yr old to hold on to an 18yr old for about 5 minutes!
Regards,
Joe Farinha

Hi Jess, and other promoters....
I realize this is a tough situation... And there are probably no good
answers in this case... Please do not take this as an attack, or
complaint, but more of an appeal for next year, and to other promoters
this year....
With such growth in the junior fields over the last few years...I think
it's probably safe, at least for the points series races, with a field
limit of 50, to assume that a 15-18 race would sell out and people would
be left out....
Given the time constraints, inability to change after it's posted, etc..
Regarding Cherry Pie... I'm not complaing... I actually really like
the 15-16s separate from the 17-18s quite a bit...
However, for everyone promoting pts series races this coming year...
Could we plan on giving them more than 20 minutes for a race ? For the
17-18s especially, none will be even close to tired in 20 minutes, it
might as well be a 10 minute race....
There is also the obvious issue of $$ Jr races are usually slightly
cheaper and slightly shorter, but $15 for 20 minutes and very little in
prizes vs an extra $5 for twice the time and significant prizes...
Not a big deal once or twice, but I'd hate to see things get planned
that way in the future
I know, no perfect answers... But just some things I hope all promoters
keep in mind if they are involved in the pts series... So we don't
have more last minute changes down the road...
Again, no offense to Jess here... Just thoughts for the future...

FROM: The Cherry Pie Criterium
-------------------------------------------------
Hi ya'all.
We have some news for you about the upcoming Cherry Pie Criterium on
February 11 in Napa.
JUNIORS FIELDS CHANGE:
In response to overwhelming disappointment in a lot of junior racers
aged 15-18 who got shut out from pre-registration, we have expanded the
fields AND CHANGED THE START TIMES! SO ATTENTION!!! We have split the
15-16's from the 17-18's and shortened their races to 20 minutes. The
new start times are as follows: 7:40 am - Junior 10-12, 13-14 20 min.
8:10 am - Junior 15-16 20 min. 8:40 am - Junior 17-18 20 min.
THE INFORMATION FOR ALL OTHER FIELDS REMAINS AS IN THE FLYER!
So tell your junior teammates, friends and relatives that we are
immediately receiving pre-reg again for all fields.

COURSE DIRECTION:
This year for the first time, Cherry Pie will be running
COUNTER-CLOCKWISE. There is a good reason relating to traffic control
and the new hotel. There is a right turn (Turn 1) immediately at the
bottom of the hill. It's Turn 1, so it's not critical to the outcome of
the race, so RIDE IT SAFELY!! It has a very wide set-up, so take it nice
and wide. Also, the finishing straight is much longer, as is the final
hill. We think that you will find these modifications titilating.
**************************************
AMENITIES:
- Pavement quality is excellent.
- Food from Downtown Joe's Restaurant will be at the site.
- Neutral wheels from Williams Cyclery for all senior races.
- Cytomax and water will be available.
- Cherry Pies and Cycles Gladiator premium wine for all senior podiums.
(Of course - it's Napa!)
- Lots of primes!!
**************************************
We think we'll be spared the rain, but prepare for the weather forecast
to be accurate. Bring appropriate apparel, don't overinflate, and RIDE
SAFE!!
