How would you like getting paid to ride a motorcycle and watch a bicycle race? Believe me, it is not a bad way to spend the day. In fact many would argue it's the best seat in the house.
The NCNCA is looking to increase the number of motorcycle officials in our district. You do not need bicycle racing experience, although it is a definite plus; at a minimum those interested should have at least watched some road bicycle races on television. Additionally, an interested applicant should be confident riding his or her motorcycle as the job does require good riding skills.
Officials are paid a fee plus all mileage incurred traveling to/from the race as well as miles logged during the event (current rate is $0.36 per mile). Additionally officials are supplied lunch by the race sponsor.
Time commitments aren't much; you only have to work two events a year to be considered an active official. Of course you can work more if you wish. Keep in mind that clubs can save money when promoting a race if they have one or more officials from their club who can work their races.
We will be conducting the officials clinic on Saturday, October 20 in Livermore and upon completion you can start working races. The clinic is free and lunch will be provided; however, you must sign up in advance to reserve your spot. If you would like to attend or have questions please email or call Casey Kerrigan (casey at caseykerrigan.com, 510-531-1400).
