[NCNCA] McLane Pacific Cancelled for 07

To whom ever is reading this that loves cycling and lives in N. California:
I don't claim to be an expert on any of this stuff and know that it
is probably a lot of hard work putting a race together, but if a state that
is generally poorer than California, such as Oregon, can put on 3-4 very
nice stage races, I think we Californians can as well. Riders are willing
to travel the distances to do them if they know they are quality. With all
do respect to Velo Promo - and I hope I don't get hate mail for saying this
- but the Madera Stage race is not at the same level as, say, Elkhorn.
Don't get me wrong about McLane, it is a really great event, but
there are already a whole lot of criteriums and rolling hill races. What
about catering to those riders who can't always afford to travel to Oregon?
How about having a well rounded race schedule that not only benefits the
sprinters, but benefits riders who would like to put their climbing and time
trialing abilities to some use? I'm sure there are some people that would
disagree, but I'm sick of being quiet about this! Maybe some clubs could
team up to put on a stage race, but this is probably unlikely. I'd get off
my butt and do something about this, but I'm in college and am very busy,
maybe after college - but until then, I wish you people who are currently in
charge of putting races together (I'm not familiar with the dynamics) would
please put together a nice stage race. And, you know, the slot for McLane
is right after the Tour of California, and it seems to me there would be a
lot of motivated riders who would love to do a timed stage race. In fact,
there usually arent any stage races around that time in Oregon that would
compete with a stage race of the same caliber. Furthermore, California
weather is usually better than Oregon's around that time of year and you
might find riders from up North willing to ride a stage race in the south.
Like I said, "I don't claim to be an expert on any of this stuff and
know that it is probably a lot of hard work putting a race together." But I
hope someone is out there is listening that would be willing to make many
racer's dreams come true!
Thank you,
Demetrius

I heard from someone involved in the 2006 McLane that this year they
could not come up with the required money - specifically the $10,000
minimum for the pro purse and additional $ for medical control (drug
testing.) The title sponsor was not interested in doing the race unless
it was NRC, so...
Stage races? It seems we might want to concentrate on saving the
events we have.
