Dear Fellow Cyclists,
The Town of Los Gatos, who provides the special events permit with its $5,000 fee for our Cat's Hill Classic, strongly recommends that we change the date of our annual Cat's Hill away from the day before Mother's Day (Saturday May 12, 2007) because that day is a "big shopping day" in Los Gatos. The Town states that the town residents affected by the race move their cars off the street and park them into areas where shoppers would normally park. The Berkeley Bike Club (BBC), which typically holds the Berkeley Hills Road Race the day after the Cat's Hill, would like to change their date to avoid a race on Mother's Day (May 13, 2007). The BBC would like to hold the Berkeley Hills Road Race on Saturday May 12, 2007.
Therefore, the LGBRC is asking the cycling community for suggestions for a date for the 34th Cat's Hill Classic. Our first preference would be Saturday May 19, 2007. However, that would conflict with the Kern County Women's stage race. Robert Leibold notes that he would not want to move the Kern County Women's stage race to Mother's Day weekend for obvious reasons. Robert also suggests that this could result in even fewer women at Cat's Hill. In addition, the Modesto Criterium is part of a two-day cycling festival organized by the City of Modesto on May 19th in 2006 (same weekend as always). This leaves May 5, 2007 as a possibility that comes with perhaps only a slight higher possibility of rain in Los Gatos or perhaps a date in June.
Any suggestions? Any club want to trade a date?
Thank you for your consideration.
