It was not Bob's idea/decision to leave Juniors out of this one.

My understanding is that the change in fields was prompted by Metromint. Metromint is one of the strongest women's teams in the area and also a big supporter of the Bay Area Women's Cycling Series (of which the Giro is part). Since the premise of the BAWC is to offer separate fields for both CAT3 and CAT4 women, I applaud Metromint (and Bob) for stepping up and making a tough decision.

The topic of women's racing/fields has been talked into the ground this season. One of the suggestions has been for the predominantly women's clubs to put their money where their mouth is and promote races that feature the women's fields. I'm thrilled that Metromint is doing this. This may not be a popular decision with fields that were eliminated. It also may not be an easy decision financially, but it proves the team's dedication to women's cycling. Since women's fields have been eliminated from some other races this season, I'm glad to see Metromint had the courage to step up and feature the women at the Giro.

Thank you for providing CAT3 women the opportunity to race in a field of their own. I hope many of you will come out and take advantage of this rare opportunity.
